Building a Foundation for Care

In many countries there is a huge demand for workers to look after other people, either in their own homes or in care/nursing homes. Sometimes this is organised by the government but often it is a matter for each family. The ‘care’ sector is one of the largest sectors of growth and is one of five sectors recognised by the European Commission as ‘meriting particular attention’.

The single employment market within the European Union has produced major movements of workers seeking work in other countries for economic reasons. Such workers often find employment in the care sector and employers are faced with job applicants holding qualifications whose value they do not understand. Equally, workers seeking a job would find it helpful if they could produce a qualification from their own country whose value would be recognised in another country.
